In a preplanned and dastardly attack, Naxals triggered an IED blast killing 15 jawans in Gadchiroli district on Wednesday morning. The attack came on Maharashtra Day leading to shock and dismay across the country.
The jawans of the C-60 Commanodes, an anti-naxal unit, were trapped by the Naxals who had set on fire a clutch of vehicles on Kurkheda-Korchi Road in Gadchiroli district. As they headed to the spot in a private vehicle, the Naxals triggered the IED blast, blowing up the vehicle into pieces.
Maharashtra Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said it seemed to be revenge for killing 40 naxals by security forces recently. “Also, they had appealed people not to vote, but polling took place enthusiastically,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the attack in a tweet. However, citizens are now urging Modi to attack decisively. During elections the Prime Minister said his government “atankwadiyi ko ghar ghus kar marti hai,” citizens now want him to end naxals who are in our home.
