WILL Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to Rajiv Gandhi’s family for making what retired naval officers say “false allegations” against the former prime minister who is dead and in India’s rich culture and tradition, we don’t defame the dead. Or do we ???
At an election rally, the Prime Minister alleged that Rajiv Gandhi had used INS Viraat as a personal taxi for a 10-day holiday in Lakshwadeep in December 1987.
Vice Admiral Vinod Pasricha (retd), the then captain of INS Viraat and former Navy chief Admiral L Ramdas (retd), the then chief of Kochi based Southern Naval comman, said Rajiv Gandhi was on board the aircraft carrier for two-three days on official duty as PM. They said no foreigner or even Rajiv’s friends like Amitabh Bachchan were present.
The retired naval officers said Rajiv Gandhi, his wife Sonia and son Rahul were on INS Virat for two-three days, but he was on an official tour to Lakshwadweep to chair a meeting of Islands Development Authority, they have reportedly said.
Now the question is will PM Modi apologise ? Or he doesn’t trust the word of our retired naval officers ? PM Modi should apologise. There is nothing wrong in it. People err. His close aides apparently gave him wrong information.
But why would such an articulate person like PM Modi make such allegations against someone who is dead ? Someone who is not alive to defend the charges ?? Why Mr Modi, why did you stoop so low ? To use Arnab Goswami’s words, the Nation Wants to Know, Mr Modi…For winning election, will you not even spare the dead ? Is it the Indian culture you talk so effusively about ? Tell us, Mr Modi, we want to know from you.
