
St. Vincent’s Batch of 2014 has lifted the football title, while St. Vincent’s Batch of 2006 won the championship in Basketball in the fifth season of the Fr. Schoch Memorial Sports Tournament organized by Ex-Students of St. Vincent’s High School at their school.
Over the weekend, 1000+ Vincentian family members attended the tournament. In the Football tournament 36 teams have participated and in the basketball tournament 12 teams of Ex- Student participated. In the badminton 14 participants and 8 participants participated for swimming competition.
The moto of the tournament is help ex-students connect with each other and bond over sports. The tournament comprised players from different batches that have passed out from St. Vincent’s High School over the years. Class of ’88 was the oldest batch to participate while the present School team the youngest.
A special exhibition match was held for all the senior football players above the age of 50. It was an inspiring sight to see Fr Andrew and others in action, playing the game with full energy and enthusiasm. As a symbol of respect, Guard of honour was given to all the players who participated in the match by all the spectators.
The tournament was sponsored by Tanveer Inamdar from TAIN. The prizes were given at the hands of Fr. Francis Patekar, (Principal, St. Vincent’s High School), Fr. Anish (Principal, Loyola High School), Vikram Kerring (President of VOBA), Fr. Kenneth Misquitta (Rector), Fr. Andrew Fernandes (Provincial – Pune Province) and Mr. Tanveer Inamdar.
This season witnessed a girl’s exhibition football match played between Commando’s and Go Sports Football Academy. The Girls Open Basketball Exhibition Tournament was played at Fr Oesch Hall.
In the Juniors football finals, Batch of 2014 managed to win over Team 2016 by 1-0. Pranav Bhandari scored the lone goal of the game on 25thminute and made sure his team ends up on winning side.
In the basketball section, Batch of 2006 dominated finals against Batch of 1997 and finishes the score line 24-4 to lift the title. Sarfaraz, Rashid Irani, Siddhant helped the team with valuable points.
In the 100 meter freestyle swimming Mark Almeida (Batch of 2017) registered best time of 1:31:93 and won the first place, while Farid from Batch of 2012 ends up second position.
Alok Munot defeated Anish Kataria by 12-10, 11-09 and won the badminton championship.
