Pune: “People say sky is the limit but what if I set my foot on the moon and make my place among the stars … then the sky will be the beginning. I truly believe that there is no limit to what we as women can accomplish”, believes Nashik’s Nilakshi Lohi, who was crowned Winner Mrs West India 2022 – Silver category from amongst 33 finalists at the glittering finale of ‘Mrs West India – Empress of West India 2022’ – Season 4, held at Hyatt Pune, on 28th May 2022. That’s not all – the diva with both beauty and brains also took home the crown of ‘Mrs Confident 2022 – Silver Category’ at the same platform!
It wasn’t easy for this homemaker by choice and a passionate wildlife photographer by hobby, to venture into this prestigious pageant. “My biggest achievement was conquering my stage fright. My biggest fear was talking on stage in front of a huge audience … and I wanted to face it head on. So I decided to join DIVA Pageants, one of the most reputed and safe platform for married ladies to showcase their strengths and achieve what others may think is not possible”, shares Nilakshi.
“It was indeed an overwhelming moment when my name was announced as Winner at this prestigious platform. I deserved to win the title because i had the courage to compete with complete dedication and show up with a kind heart, fierce mind and brave spirit! I would like to thank my husband, Shyam Lohi, who has been my pillar of strength. Only because of him I had the courage to enter the pageant”, beams Nilakshi. “I am immensely grateful to my mentors, Anjana and Karl Mascarenhas, who are the brain and the heart behind, DIVA Pageants, for their constant encouragement, their belief that I can do it, for showing me the way to follow my dreams come what may … a big thank you to them. Their dedicated guidance and impeccable grooming has truly transformed every participant into a winner”, she adds.
Two things besides cooking and baking that Nilakshi is passionate about is playing the violin and pursuing wildlife photography. “I am intensely passionate about photography… the only universal language understood everywhere in the world”, she smiles. As a Wildlife photographer she loves to click birds and nature.
In fact, her passion for photography led her to become a fitness freak, “It made me realise the importance of a fit body. I went for my first nature photography tour to Kashmir, last year and I realised that I needed to be fit. My motivation to start workout was to be strong enough to trek and carry all the huge wildlife lenses with ease … and in the process I lost 20kgs. My fitness coach Deepali Sonawane from Iron Sport was my strongest supporter in this journey”, she smiles. Again, she credits this to her husband, who has been her backbone. “It’s only because of him that I can travel for various photography tours”, adds the mother of two young boys, 16 & 11 years, who are her world.
Nilakshi sums up her journey with her favourite motto – Strength is how you shut down the voice in your head that says “I Can’t”.
