Pune: IT’S a battle which entire Maharashtra is watching with interest. The battle is between Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Mr Jarange is going full blast, attacking Mr Fadnavis, alleging that he has hatched a plan to eliminate him. And how ? Mr Jarange alleges that Mr Fadnavis has, through some MLAs belonging to Ajit Pawar’s NCP and Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has, wants to poison through saline or wants to eliminate him through a police encounter.
Mr Jarange-Patil’s angry reaction came at Antrawali-Saraati village in Jalna district where he is on hunger strike. Mr Jarange-Patil has been insisting that he will not accept a separate 10 per cent reservation for Maratha community but wants quota only through OBC category.
On Sunday, Mr Jarange-Patil launched a blistering on Mr Fadnavis. A smilar attack was launched by Mr Jarange-Patil against Mr Fadnavis after the police lathi-charge on protestors in Antarwali-Saraati on September 1.
This was the second ferocious attack on Mr Fadnavis by the activist. Mr Fadnavis, who is called the Chanakya of Maharashtra politics had never faced such an embarrassing situation before. He has been busy toiling hard for his party, importing leaders from other parties and strengthening BJP. He probably never thought he will have to face this kind of a nasty attack.
Mr Jarange-Patil said he never rakes up castes issues. ”But Mr Fadnavis who is a Brahmin wants to defeat the Marathas. He will never succeed in his attempts,” he alleged.
On his part, Mr Fadnavis said the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has as promised given a separate 10 per cent reservation to Maratha community which will stand the judicial scrutiny.
Mr Fadnavis said he knows who is writing the scrip for Mr Jarange-Patil. ”I know who is writing his script….I suspect it is Mr Uddhav Thackeray or Mr Sharad Pawar,” he alleged.
Mr Jarange-Patil alleged that not only Mr Fadnavis is conspiring against him, but has done it several times in the past in case of several BJP leaders. ”It is because of him some BJP leaders had to quit. It is because of the fear of arrest he put in the mind of some leaders like Ajit Pawar who then split their party. But Mr Fadnavis should remember, he will not succeed against me….I will come directly to his Sagar Bungalow,” he said.
Mr Jarange-Patil lost his cool after some of close associates sought to ”expose him.” The close associates held press conferences and narrated the machinations of the activist, who made the activist suspect that it was Mr Fadnavis who could be behind this.
