Milind Deora jumps to Shinde Sena,  wastes no time in trashing Congress…

Pune: MILIND Deora, former MP from South Mumbai and a former Union Minister on Sunday, joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Congress was not shocked by his decision. The party in a muted tone said ”good riddance.”

The Congress said he had slim chance of being nominated from South Mumbai and that is why he decided to change loyalty.

Deora joined the Shiv Sena in presence of the Chief Minister in Mumbai today. Before joining, Deora said only said he wanted to walk the path of development. After joining, he debunked the Congress with which his family was associated with for 55 years. The Congress leaders said the party made both father-son duo ministers in the Union Cabinet and now when he sensed opportunity from other parties, Milind Deora decided to jump the ship, thereby throwing loyalty factor out of the window. The Congress said Murli Deora was a life long loyalist and never dumped the Congress like the son has done.

Moments after joining the Shiv Sena, Milind Deora said the Congress of 1968 when his party joined the party and the Congress of 2004 when he joined the party, is different from the Congress of 2024. ”The Congress in the past made concrete suggestions for development of the party. But the present Congress has only one point agenda of attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

Congress leaders like Varsha Gaikwad and others said they were saddened by the quitting of Deora. ”We tried to persuade him not to leave but he did not listen,” Varsha Gaikwad said.

MPCC chief Nana Patole said the BJP tried to cause dent to Rahul Gandhi’s Second Bharat Jodi Yatra by importing a Congress leader in its fold.

Many Congress leaders said they were expecting Deora to leave the party. He was not actively involved with the party in Maharashtra. He was critical of the party joining hands with the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray and forming Maha Vikas Aghadi government, a Congress leader said.

The Congress said there was no chance of Deora getting Congress ticket from South Mumbai as the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has claimed to the seat. ”We will not part with the seat. Our candidate has won the seat twice. And as per the agreement in INDIA bloc any party which has won the seat in the past has the first claim over the seat,” said Sanjay Raut, chief spokesperson of the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray.

Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said Deora was not going to be renominated as the party survey had gone against him. “The condition of BJP, Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP is so bad that they have been forced to import a Congress leader who had lost twice,” he said.
