In yet another fire incident in Pimpri-Chinchwad, two brothers tragically died when their fast asleep in the godown of a shop in Walherkarwadi area of the industrial. Such deaths in shops and godowns are increasingly becoming common in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
After the fire brigade was alerted around 2.30 in the morning, the fire vehicles were rushed to the post. But before they could provide any help, the two brothers who were fast asleep in the godown were burnt to death. The brothers have been identified as Kamlesh Arjun Chaudhary (23) and his younger brother Lalit (21).
Pimpri-Chinchwad fire officials said there were two godowns located in Jal Malhar Colony of Walhekarwadi suburbs. ”One godown had wooden items stored in it and another had aluminium frames in which the two young brothers were fast asleep,” an official said.
The two brothers apparently were suffocated to death. They seem to have inhaled the fumes and died of suffocation after which they were charred to death.
The industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad has seen a series of deaths due to fire. Last month, nearly 15 persons had died in a factory in Chikhli area where inflammatory articles had caught fire. Before that, four of a family died when their fast asleep in their shop which caught fire in Chikhli area.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has launched a survey to identify shops, industry and other commercial establishments where inflammatory things are stored.
In the survey PCMC has found that over 40,000 commercial establishments failed to provide proper information about fire safety norms.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has said that fire safety is a non-negotiable aspect of urban living and the safety of the citizens is our topmost priority. ”We cannot afford to overlook lapses in fire prevention measures,” he said.
