Pune:The Pune airport, which has got new terminal building, has to make do with old building. The reason: the work on the new terminal building has not been completed yet.
This came to light in Rajya Sabha on Monday when Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen V Singh said,”The work on the new terminal building is still going. The building is not waiting for any inauguration. When the work is fully completed, the building will be inaugurated. ”
The Minister’s reply came in response to a question raised by Priyanka Chaturvedi, MP of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in the Rajya Sabha. Chaturvedi sought to know why was the new terminal building not inaugurating despite the work having completed five months back.
She also post on the X, former twitter. ”The new terminal building at Pune airport is ready for inauguration since last five month. This is what the airport authorites told me. The Minister however said the terminal building is yet to completed. Who is lying and who is misleading ?”
Shiv Sena (UBT) Youth chief Aditya Thackeray, MLA, criticised the government. ”On one hand, the central government is refusing to inaugurate a new terminal building which is ready for inauguration since last five months. On the other hand, it claim credit, it wants to inaugurate an incompleted Coastal Road project in Mumbai.”
The new terminal building work was taken up at Pune airport as the number of flight operations have gone up significantly in past few years. The new terminal building is being constructed at a cost of Rs 475 crore. It will have parking facility and a cargo complex, both costing over Rs 400 crore.
