Pune: The new terminal building of Pune airport is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19. The same day, the PM will also inaugurate four new Pune Metro stations.
This revelation has come from Deputy Chief Minister Mr Ajit Pawar today. Pawar said they are trying to get the new Pune airport terminal building inaugurated by the Prime Minister. ”As the Prime Minister is coming to Satara on February 19, we are trying to get the Pune events accommodated in his schedule,” Ajit Pawar told reporters in Pune today.
For last two months, the Pune Metro stretch from Ruby Hall clinic to Ramwadi is ready but the Maha Metro officials have not been able to start them fpr the sake of citizens’ convenience as they have not been able to get green signal from the powers-that-be.
Maha-Metro officials have already sent the proposal to the state government for the inauguration but they have apparently been kept waiting so that the inauguration can take at the hands of the PM.
The Prime Minister is known to generate curiousity among the people. His speeches go down well with the people. And the in election year when Pune Lok Sabha seat and Satara seat are crucial, the BJP sees it as a golden opportunity to woo the masses through the inauguration of the key development projects.
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar who today inspected the new terminal building of Pune airport, was in fulsome praise. ”It is a high quality building. It will ease passenger comfort. There will be less crowding at the airport. Over 1.20 crore passengers will be accommodated in the new airport terminal. Passengers will be able to directly access the airplanes without looking for bus service which takes them to the planes,” he said.
Ajit Pawar’s visit to Pune airport terminal building is significant as the Modi Government had come under fire for not inaugurating the building despite it being ready. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had taken up the issue in Parliament after which Civil Aviation Minister V K Singh had said that some works need to be completed. Another Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also visited the airport.
