Change in school timings by government added to teachers and parents problems: Tambe

March : During the intermin budget session, MLC Satyajeet Tambe demanded that the state government leave the responsibility of starting schools to the respective management. As of now, the government has ordered schools from pre-primary to Grade IV to open at 9 am or later.

Tambe, while raising the issue in the Legislative Council, said the school management should take the decision on school operations. “While it is necessary for the government to give instructions for running the school or fixing the schedule etc. But they shouldn’t dictate when to ring the opening bell of the school,” said Tambe.

Tambe also said the government has increased the problems of parents and teachers by changing the school timings. “Parents have already managed their work hours to drop their children to school. However, due to change in timings, parents will have to rearrange the timings and their work may suffer. Similar is the situation of teachers. As a result, the parents and teachers have been negatively affected,” he added.

Tambe said the school management should have the right to decide the school time table and that the government should be flexible. “In Maharashtra, around 70% of schools open in two sessions– morning and afternoon. The government should not force the schools to open after 9 am. The authority of the same should rest with the management committee,” Tambe said.
