Pune: COMMUTERS in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city have lot to cheer now. The Pune Metro service has reached right up to Ramwadi on Pune-Ahmednagar Road. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (March 6, 2024) inaugurated the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch which is about 6.6 km.
Prime Minister Modi also on the occasion performed the bhoomi pujan of the Pimpri to Nigdi 4.4 km stretch.
Both the stretch will ease the road traffic headache of commuters from Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city. Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch will primarily help office goers and students going to Pune-Ahmednagar Road area. The Nagar Road has in recent times become a travellers nightmare as vehicles get jammed throughout the day. In the evening hours, the situation becomes worse.
Maha Metro managing director Shravan Hardikar described the inauguration of the Ramwadi stretch as a major milestone and said citizens of both Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city can look forward to quick travel without getting caught in jams as it happens on roads. ”No jams, no snarls…Commuters can travel within minutes to Nagar Road areas. College students and office-goers can now breathe easy,” he said.
Meanwhile, commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad who have long been demanding that Pune Metro be extended up to Nigdi finally have found their demand being fulfilled. The Prime Minister virtually performed the bhoomi pujan of the Pimpri or PCMC to Nigdi stretch which is about 4.4 km. Nigdi was the key destination for Pune Metro. However, it was eliminated in the first phase of Metro construction, which citizens and activists called it a wrong decision.
The construction of the Pimpri to Nigdi stretch is expected to start in a few months time. The deadline is about two years.
