Fadnavis should resign, law and order in Maharashtra has deteriorated: Congress…

Pune: DESCRIBING the firing incident right inside a police station in Ulhasnagar area on Friday night as a reflection of the breakdown of law and order situation in the state, the Maharashtra Congress today demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the State Home Minister.

”Imagine what is happening in Maharashtra under the Shinde-Fadnavis regime. A politician that too one who belongs to the ruling BJP opens fire right inside a police station. And who has be opened fire at ? He opened fire at the leader of Shiv Sena, which is an alliance partner of BJP in the ruling coalition…What can be more shocking then to see the leaders belonging to the ruling parties indulging such ugly spat,” said Congress spokesperson Gopal Tiwari, in a statement.

The Congress said the property dispute between BJP MLA and the Shinde Sena leader reflects the deep-seated struggle over supremacy for power in the ruling regime. ”The BJP and the Shinde Sena are locked in a bitter battle for supremacy over the government. The firing incident is a prime example of what is going on in the government. Both BJP and Shiv Sena are trying to assert their presence and supremacy and want full control over the government so that they can achieve their goal of amassing wealth. They have nothing to do with public concern, they only have selfish goals,” Tiwari said.

The Congress said such incidents which are happening on the land of sants and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are a big blot on the face of Maharashtra . ”It seems Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and our renowned sants are present only in the words of Shinde-Fadnavis government. In reality, they do not follow the teachings of the sants and the ideology professed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” said Tiwari.

Demanding the resignation of Fadnavis, the Congress said the law and order situation has been deteriorating in Maharashtra since the Shinde-Fadnavis government came to power and there was no change despite Ajit Pawar’s NCP joining hands with them. ”The three-party government has failed to deliver on their promise. After they took charge, the law and order in the situation has been going downhill. Crime rate has increased like never before. Common man is not feeling safe in Maharashtra. The firing incident in police station reflects the unsafe scenario in the state. Fadnavis has failed as Home Minister. Earlier, even the Bombay High Court has passed severe strictures against the Home Ministry headed by Fadnavis, ” he said.

Criticising the statement of BJP State president Chandrakant Bawankule, Tiwari said,”The BJP State president said BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad fired in self-defence. This is nothing but a shocking statement coming as it does from a top BJP leader. It shows BJP is trying to defend an MLA with criminal background.”

The Congress has also condemned the statement of BJP MP Anil Bonde against Congress MLA Yashomati Thakur. ”Using objectionable language and that too against a woman leader shows the culture that the BJP is trying to bring into Maharashtra. We condemn such statements…Both Fadnavis and Bawankule should resign from their posts. They have proved themselves to be insensitive leaders,” Tiwari said.
